What it takes to get clean: Stories of recovery

We often think of addiction in broad terms — as statistics, as a brain disease, as a driver of crime. But what can we learn when we hear directly from those experiencing — and overcoming — addiction?

The Maine people in “Clean” are reclaiming their lives from addiction. They encountered their drug of choice and came to treatment in different ways. In one case, a father is trying to come to terms with the death of a son by accidental overdose. Each person experienced great loss and found they possessed deep strength. They surrounded themselves with people who believed in their strength.

They teach us that recovery happens day by day, and that staying clean is possible but always harder to do alone.
