“Someone Who Cares” wins People’s Choice award for Maine Focus Film Festival

We’re pleased to announce the People’s Choice winner for our student film festival, Someone Who Cares, written and directed by David Rice of Winterport, a senior at Hampden Academy.

The film is about a teen struggling with an addiction to prescription pills. It explores the feelings that he has as a result of his addiction and emphasizes the importance of getting help. Watch below:

Someone Who Cares won the People’s Choice award for the festival with 32 percent of online votes. Runners up were Only the Great Die Young by Jacob Caron of Eddington, who produced the film when he was a senior at Brewer High school, and When is it Enough by participants at the Maine Youth Action Summit.

The first, second and third place winners will be chosen by our panel of judges:

The winners will be announced at our MaineFocus Film Festival event, sponsored by Health Affiliates of Maine, at the Cross Insurance Center during the basketball tourney on Saturday, Feb. 22.

You can watch all the student films and read about their production at our editorial blog, Arguably, and see them and meet their creators at our festival. Come back to MaineFocus for more details as the event nears.
