Domestic violence training with Spruce Run

The MaineFocus Domestic and Sexual Violence team will be participating in Spruce Run’s hotline volunteer training in a few weeks, and we’d love to our readers join us.

Spruce Run serves people affected by domestic abuse through a 24-hour hotline; emergency shelter; support and education groups; transitional housing and advocacy. The organization was the first domestic violence project in Maine and just the third in the country when it incorporated in 1973.

Hotline training starts Aug. 20 and will run every Tuesday and Thursday from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. until Sept. 26. Anyone with questions or an interest in participating is encouraged to contact Catherine at Spruce Run at 945-5102 ext. 32.

The training is designed to prepare volunteers with the skills needed to offer phone or in person support to victims of domestic violence. Volunteers will also help callers with safety planning and make referrals for additional resources.
